Lose Your Gut (Pot Belly) with these Strategies - Thomas DeLauer

Study from Nature Communications found that fasting preferentially burns visceral fat

Fasting upregulates miR-133a, which inhibits PRDM16, and that reduces thermogenesis in Subc WAT and drives the transition from Sub to Visceral fat**

Visceral fat is preferentially oxidized as it can drain directly into the portal circulation and appears to be more efficient at meeting energy needs compared with the relatively externally located subcutaneous fat

Visceral is more vascular and contains a higher % of large adipocytes plus having more glucocorticoid and androgen receptors than subcutaneous

Boron inhibits SHBG, freeing up testosterone, and this increase in T results in the decrease of E2

Additionally, boron can:

Boost magnesium absorption
Reduce levels of inflammatory biomarkers, such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α)
Raise levels of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase

DIM is a naturally occurring byproduct of indole-3-carbinol (IC3), and IC3 itself is a byproduct of glucosinolate glucobrassicin, which is a compound found in cruciferous veggies, such as: broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and kale

In particular, IC3 helps the liver to metabolize estrogen more efficiently via upregulating the CYP1A2 enzyme (CYP1A2 is an enzyme that helps to break down toxins in our bodies)

It also simultaneously converts strong estrogen molecules into less potent ones (via downregulation of the CYPB1B enzyme and upregulation of CYP1A2 enzyme) - results in reduced estrogen levels and a more favorable estradiol/estrone ratio

DIM and its precursor, I3C, suppress adipogenesis, which is the formation of new fat cells

A lack of sodium causes the brain to send signals to the adrenal gland to increase the release of hormones responsible for water balance (aldosterone & vasopressin) - cortisol is released alongside these hormones

Magnesium deficiency also causes upregulation of the HPA (Hypothalamic–Pituitary–Adrenal) axis which leads to anxiety-like behavior in mice. The HPA axis is responsible for influencing production of the stress hormone cortisol.

Also inhibits the release of excitatory neurotransmitters and also acts as a voltage-gated antagonist at the glutamate, N-methyl-D- aspartate (NMDA) receptor

Tea for Coffee

Caffeine does cause increases in cortisol, so reducing total caffeine intake may be favorable as well

Curcumin, one of the active ingredients in turmeric is believed to communicate with liver cells to produce more LDL receptors. Due to increase in receptors, more cholesterol is cleared from our body

Foods High in Chlorophyll (gourd, arugula, dandelion greens, spinach)
Chlorophyll is literally the blood of plants - its chemical structure resembles that of hemin, which combines with protein to form hemoglobin in the human bloodstream

Chlorophyll has proven beneficial to increase the red blood cell count in humans - red blood cells carry oxygen to the tissues

An abundance of oxygen and healthy flow of blood encourages the body to get rid of harmful impurities and toxins - also helps as it chelates to heavy metals

Milk Thistle

The active ingredient in milk thistle, silymarin, creates a detoxifying effect in the body and in the liver as it acts as an antioxidant by reducing free radical production

Silymarin reduces free radical production and lipid peroxidation, has antifibrotic activity and may acts as a toxin blockade agent by inhibiting the binding of toxins to the hepatocyte cell membrane receptors

Study from Diabetologia found that just two weeks of exercise improves beta cell function and reduces pancreatic fat in adults with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes

Found that this short-term training particularly reduced ectopic fat (fat that accumulates in abnormal parts of the body) in the pancreas

Hey Thomas I watched this video and appreciate everything you said. I always tried to look up the product boron and milk thistle on Amazon and see a whole lot of different products most with a lot of negative reviews can you recommend which are the best to use please?.

Wow. How many chemicals you have talked about? And their relationships with each other, organs, fat, stress, etc. I will need to do math. Or, just eat healthy and add cardio into training plan.

U can use all these big words and and u say inflammation but u don’t say what causes the inflammation, the inflammation is caused. Y over acidity in the diet , when ur over acidic the liver produces cholesterol to Neutralize the acid by binding and solidifying tans encapsulating the fat and the fat actually protects your organs from acid erosion. , it’s that simple , so the solution is a more alkalizing diet , it’s that simple , all the other talk is hot air up ur arse hole

I am a 75 year old woman and I started keto 3 months ago and have lost and kept off 20 lbs. I no longer want to lose weight but am still left with a pot belly. My BMI is 22.5. I am 5’7. How do I lose this without losing more weight. I also have hashimotos disease.

Thomas, love your content but I can’t stop looking at your biceps which don’t look natural. I’m not trying to be a jerk, just hope you’re not injecting them to increase size. Regardless, keep up the great content creation...

Pot bellies are often not fat but a condition called ascites. Which essentially fluid leaking from an overworked liver.

thanks so much. I want to lose a little weight. I was a bit scared because I gained about 25 pounds over covid and I really like this girl who I want to ask on a date (I am a short 5'5'' dude (senior in HS soon to be college) who used to be roughly 115 (was in wrestling) now I weigh roughly 140). I noted I had some stretch marks on my stomach, arms, and a bit on the legs so I immediately have been spending hours a day working out and losing weight. Just one issue, I am scared about loose skin (I am 17 years old in US.). Anyway, ty for this great video and I watched a couple other videos you have made. So far I have lost 6 pounds last week and I hope to keep up the gains without getting loose skin.

This is the start of a new era for me. I've never had a problem with weight until I got in my late 40s. I will be 60 tomorrow and stress, life, etc has been far too stressful. That is going to change. I want to learn more about keto and intermittent fasting. I'm not one to sit down and eat 3 meals a day anyway so this might be a less stressful way to lose weight and feel great. I'm not that far off really. I weighed in last week at the doctor's at 221. Four years ago, I weighed 178, and aside from being exhausted all the time from the work I was doing, 10 hours a day in the hot Texas sun servicing swimming pools, I had a lot more energy to burn. I went hiking at Pedernales State Park with my new bride on our honeymoon and she was exhausted but I was not. I want to get back to that without working 10 hours in the sun.

I'm a doctor by profession. I'm seriously impressed the way you have researched the topic. I know the reason behind this but seeing someone disciplined himself to read all these stuffs and practiced it, thereby bringing a change really motivates me. A well done video.

i got a question so if the aggressive way to counter pot belly is to do fasting dose water like lower the efficiency or is it just hydrating your body?

I'm going to cut out all soda ... how long show I fast for? I'm 180 and have a belly like I'm pregnant it's very embarrassing... would like to loose 50-60 lbs... what vegetables should I be eating and anything else that is helpful is greatly appreciated

Honest Question: if milk thistle contributes to less binding of toxins in the hepatocytes, where do the toxins then go? I consider the liver to be a filter and removes toxins from the blood as part of it's purpose. And therefore, letting it do it's job is ideal. With that in consideration, where do the toxins go if the liver rejects them?
